What got you into cosplay?
Writing my diploma thesis on cosplay made me want to give it a try - and now I can't stop! ^^;
What was your first costume and why?
Lulu - I was playing FF X at the time and the character and "wow" costume struck me from the first time I saw her. I wanted a real challenge for my first cos - like, if I were to make just one costume ever, what would it be?!
What is your favorite costume and why?
It used to be Lulu, followed by Warrior Yuna. Right now I think it's either Viola or White Lulu (my original design.) These costumes took a long time to make, I put a lot of love and effort into them, I'm happy with how they turned out, I received very kind and positive feedback AND I had a lot of fun wearing them. That's what makes them my favorites ^.^
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
More like a hundred dream costumes actually^^;
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Basically, meeting people through cosplay.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sometimes. I love to write skits and work on them with friends, but I only go through the trouble when I really have a story to tell, or when I have a costume (or a whole group) that I think is worth showing off.
I enjoy watching masquerades or working behind the scenes too, however.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Winning hearts and a trip to Japan at the German Cosplay Championships 2007!
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I've been a finalist for the DCM (German Cosplay Championships) three times, and once for the EuroCosplay Championships in London (2012).
Tell us a little about yourself
I just finished my doctoral thesis on fan cultures and fan costuming (go figure) and I've also taught related topics at my university.
I love teaching panels at conventions, too, and I've posted quite a few tutorials, mostly about wig-styling :) I'll try to write more general articles about cosplay in the future, too. Photography is another big interest that I combine with my love for cosplay.
