What got you into cosplay?
Well, I've been attending conventions since Otakon 2002, and I've dressed up in costume since then, but never in anything that I've made 100% by myself -- until now. I've always loved playing dress-up, especially as a child, and Halloween used to be my favorite holiday, but Otakon has since taken its place (yes, I consider Otakon, the second-largest anime convention in the USA, a holiday). And ever since that first convention, I knew I wanted to cosplay. I really loved seeing everyone in costume, and I couldn't wait to cosplay myself. However, I have this irritating habit of starting projects and never finishing them. I have three costumes in progress right now (!) and have yet to complete a single one (except for Selphie), which is why it has taken me six years to actually finish a costume. ^_^;
What was your first costume and why?
Selphie Tilmitt, from Final Fantasy VIII, because her costume didn't seem too difficult, and because I've been told that I'm a lot like her personality-wise. And because I just adore her!
What is your favorite costume and why?
Well, the only costume that I've completed so far is Selphie so I guess it would be my Selphie costume. It is very comfortable to wear and easy to care for (I can stick it right in the washing machine). Also I have a lot of fun cosplaying her because we're a lot alike, and I can be as crazy/hyper/bouncy/cheerful as I'd like and people will assume that I'm just being "in character" instead of chalking it up to my ADHD... ^^; which is nice.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
OMG. I thought you'd never ask. FROG. from CHRONO TRIGGER. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game ever, and my dream costume is totally Frog -- I'd make the costume, armor, a frog mask, Masamune --everything!! I really, really can't wait to make this costume, but I'm a total novice at this and I just know I'm nowhere close to being able to do him justice right now. So I'll just have to get some more practice making other costumes before I attempt him.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Again, the only costume I've made so far is Selphie, and I had so much fun cosplaying her at Otakon 2008 this year. Meeting all the other Final Fantasy cosplayers (especially the other Final Fantasy VIII cosplayers) was really awesome, and everyone was so friendly and fun to be around. I had a wicked awesome time!
I must say though, that my favorite part was on Saturday, when we (Crystal, Phil, Krissy, and I -- Rinoa, Seifer, Rinoa, and Selphie) decided to make a trip to the 7-Eleven in Baltimore and recruited an Anbu named Bill and an Irvine on the way. That was totally awesome and a whole lot of fun, and I'm so disappointed that all of our convenience store photos that were taken with my crappy camera didn't come out better. ;_; But was still a great time and I wouldn't trade that experience for the WHOLE WORLD. You guys are the best!
Do you participate in masquerades?
I haven't yet, but I really really want to. So if anyone needs a Selphie with a flair for the dramatic for their skit, please please ask me!
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Nope, haven't been in any competitions or contests yet.
