What got you into cosplay?
Halloween. It's always been my favorite holiday, not because of the butt-tons of candy, but because of the annual opportunity to make and/or wear a costume.
I always used to think, "Man, it's too bad I can't get away with wearing costumes any other time..."
Silly little me. I discovered the cosplay community in general, and this site in particular, when I was searching the internet for supplies for my next incredibly ambitious Halloween costume. Imagine my utter joy.
That was just the beginning of my slow descent into cosplay madness--or ascent, depending on your point of view... ;)
What was your first costume and why?
My first real cosplay was Vergere. I was planning to attend Star Wars Celebration III, and had joined up with a group who were planning to cosplay the Jedi strike team from the novel Star by Star.
Financial issues reared their ugly head, and I withdrew because I didn't want to leave them missing a member if things didn't work out. Well, a month or so before the con, things did work themselves out. So there I was with my spot filled, still wanting to cosplay, but with no idea of whom.
It was in an AIM conversation that one of the group members half-jokingly suggested that I do Vergere. My initial thought was "Ha, that'd be cool, but there's no way." But the more I considered it, the more the idea grew on me, and the more feasible it became.
Thus, I went for it and managed to whip up a decent depiction in a matter of about 3 weeks.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My all-time favorite costume ever has to be the Halloween costume I wore when I was a in 2nd grade. My mother, grandmother, and I had all collaborated to create an amazing depiction of Lydia Dietz from Beetlejeuse. Right down to that cool hat with the veil. :)
It won me my first award--even if the stupid judges didn't know who I was and called me the "lady in mourning." *sigh*
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Currently, Abel Nightroad in 80% Krusnik form--complete with enormous mechanical "fwooshing" wings. Easy? Heck no. Possible? Barely. Awesome? Yes.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Winning second place in the anime division with our Trinity Blood group at GenCon '07. By far, the highlight of my cosplay "career," thus far. And it would have been even without winning the award.
Of course, leaving the con to go get lunch in the Lolita!Vash costume is a close second... =P
Do you participate in masquerades?
I do now! XD
What was your best masquerade experience?
See above. =P
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Second place in the anime division at GenCon '07 with our group entry.
And several Halloween costume contests, mostly during my elementary school days. =P
