What got you into cosplay?
Always loved costuming - Halloween's my favorite holiday. Was introduced to anime in college & went to my first con. The rest is history.
What was your first costume and why?
Ranma-chan, cause it was easy and cheap.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Samus is now my favorite costume in terms of appearance, but she's so painful to wear and so fragile, that I'm wondering if the pros really outweigh the cons.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Sure - Sherezade from Escaflowne. Hmm... lately, I've also had an extreme inkling to do a Last Unicorn costume. Either Schmendrick for the fabulousness of the character, or the Red Bull because that would be... nearly impossible to get right. Love a good challenge.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Has to be Otakon 2003. I spent a whole day trying to get to the Art Show as Samus, along with my sister who was dressed as Pikachu. 3.5 hours later, we were only halfway there. But at least I got to "kill" Pikachu dozens of times before the day was out.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Just started in 2002. I'm a member of Entry#18 and we've performed:
Otakon 2002 "Green Leaves of Hope" aka Yatta;
Katsucon 2003 "Duel of the Fiddles" aka Gundam Wing Devil Went Down to Georgia;
Otakon 2003 "Hit Me, Bash Me, Thrill Me, Smash Me" aka Super Smash Bros. Thriller;
Katsucon 2004 "Shounen Ai for the Shounen Guy" aka WeiB Kreuz Queer Eye;
Otakon 2004 "Dance Magic Dance Revolution" aka the Utena Muppet skit.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Otakon 2003. We practiced every weekend for 3 months, took 5 cars to carry all of the costumes, people and props, and it was all over in 3 minutes.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I-Con 2003 (best constructed costume - Sorceress Edea from FF8);
Shoujocon 2001 (hall costume contest 2nd place, best female presentation costume show - Jesse from Pokemon);
Vericon (best costume - Treebeard 2004);
Otakon 2003 - Best workmanship (group cosplay - Masquerade);
Otakon 2004 - Best Costume Craftsmanship (group cosplay - Masquerade)
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm getting old... perhaps I'll have to retire from cosplaying at some point. Done will college and working - pondering what to do for a career, whether to go for another degree, etc. In the meantime, trying to experience life.
Hobbies - geocaching! People - if you don't know what that is, go to www.geocaching.com and be prepared for much fun! Love gaming - board games, mainly, and outdoorsy activities - Ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, field hockey, rollerblading, whitewater rafting. And of course, costuming.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Love making new friends, so feel free to chat if you catch me on AIM (very rare) or PM me. Be forewarned, I've been told I talk - a LOT.
