What got you into cosplay?
I wanted to make Rinoa's duster long before I knew that it was something people created web pages about. So final fantasy VIII will always be my favorite game because of this, and oh how I would love a Squall to cosplay with...
What was your first costume and why?
Final Fantasy X-2 Yuna. I had just finished X when I discovered character sketches for X-2, and I was under the impression that If I was one of the first people to do it then I would be more unique. Also it seemed rather simple, save for the pink lace......
What is your favorite costume and why?
Lulu, I love the complexity, the belts, the hair sticks, the sexyness.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Ahhh, I'm always making my dream costumes... first it was Lulu, then Orange Rose Chii, then to do an amano design, then Shiva. If I dream it, I make it, and right now I'm dreaming about Celes Chere in the Opera Gown....
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
At big apple anime fest, while wearing kaeru zukin, one girl who i ran into several times throughout the day loved my costume and shouted "the ddr dancer!" each time she saw me. Also that day a random guy on the street asked me if i wore wings everyday.
Do you participate in masquerades?
On occasion, at Anime Boston 2005 as Lulu, and at Otakon 2007 as Yuffie, Kingdom Hearts version
What was your best masquerade experience?
Otakon was fun, we just sorta had to wing the whole performance since no one knew what they were doing, but it turned out all right.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I received a Hall Award for Lulu at AB 2005, took first place at the Tokyo Kid (anime store in Cambridge, MA) Halloween Cosplay Contest, an AB hall award for Orange Rose Chii, a Judge's Award for Berserker Rikku at Anime Boston 2006, and took third place journeyman division for Felicia at Otakon 2007
Tell us a little about yourself
Cosplay aside, I love photography, both digital and traditional.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I don't believe in keeping 'trade secrets'. I will always tell someone how I made something, where I bought the supplies and what went wrong. I don't see a need to be possessive over any extra bits of beaded fringe I might have chosen to add. I'm not going to get upset if someone else interprets a costume in the same manner I did, or claim I thought of it first.
Here is the thing; no two people will ever make the exact same costume, even if they have all the same supplies, tools and skills. Even if they work side by side all the while studying what the other is doing. The artwork is out there for everyone, every cosplayer who shows their face at a con or posts photos on the internet is putting their ideas and interpretations out there. Art gets recycled, it is part of life.
