About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
Costumes have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have countless fond memories of costumes and play time. In my early years I would sometimes be a kitty or puppy for a day. My mom was supportive of my pretending efforts and would even allow me to remain in costume and persona at the grocery store provided I would behave. Halloween was always such a great holiday because of the costumes. An opportunity to dress up without getting weird looks. I also dabbled a little with costumes for Star Trek conventions. Hey, I was a huge fan of Next Gen back in the day. /blush Otakon 1998 was my first anime convention. None of my friends had prepped me and thus I was in total awe. I had one roll of film which posed a difficult situation given my first exposure to non Trek cosplay and more anime media than I could handle. After seeing all those people in costume, I couldn't wait to make one of my own and join in on the fun of Cosplay.
What was your first costume and why?
Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi. At the time my anime club had been watching Fushigi Yuugi. I wanted to do a group skit for Otakon 1999. My boyfriend at the time was willing to dress as Tamahome.
What is your favorite costume and why?
While I'm in the process of updating this...
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Summoner armor from Final Fantasy XI. I've wanted to make a number of pieces. Relic horn, body, hands, legs, and feet as well as Austere hat and body. Finally I'd also like to make a YinYang robe with some Carbie mitts.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Drunk Vash at Otakon 2002. I was an Associate staffer assigned to the cosplay department. All day on Saturday I was busy coordinating people backstage during rehearsals. Everyone just referred to me as Drunk Vash. Hey, it was easier than remembering my real name. It was quite a busy day and an rewarding experience.
Do you participate in masquerades?
These days, No since the time required for check in, rehearsals and the event itself keeps me from other things or I'm on staff. The two times I have participated (Otakon 1999 and Animazement 2000) it was a blast!
What was your best masquerade experience?
Winning two awards at the Animazement 2000 cosplay contest. We did the Ultra Relax dance. We won 3rd place novice and a judges award.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
No awards for costumes, just general skit award.
Tell us a little about yourself
I am an alumni of the University of Pittsburgh, and I'm struggling to find my place in the professional world. Anime is my biggest and longest running hobby. 2006 marks my 10 year anniversary at Pitt's anime club. I still can't believe it's been that long. These days I have cut back a bit on my cosplay ventures, but I still have ideas. I also play FFXI. Treasa on Midgardsormr. Spending much more time in game these days, but hopefully that might change... Oh and lol, my age doesn't automatically update on here so it's been wrong for a while. ^^;;;;
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
