What got you into cosplay?
I'd been attending conventions since 1997, so I was a late starter into cosplay (2006), but I had given tentative thoughts to it a few times. I think a combination of unemployment and a feeling that I was running out of reasons to keep going to cons finally gave me the time and motive to put something together. I started working again right before I dressed up for the first time, but I've kept on cosplaying since then.
What was your first costume and why?
Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop. A character I really liked, a costume I thought I could pull off, and a character I didn't see cosplayed too much.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Whichever one I made last. :) But Jet is a sentimental favorite because it was my first and I am proud of my WW Ganondorf because it (mostly) turned out just like I hoped it would.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Toshihiro Kawamoto, the character designer for Cowboy Bebop, was a guest at Anime Expo 2010. Of course I had to attend his panel dressed as Jet Black. (It's the cosplay equivalent of meeting your maker, right?) Me, a Spike, a Faye and an Ed were sitting together in the third row. A few questions into his Q&A, I hear Kawamoto say "Jetto kosupurei" to his interpreter and I realized holy cow, he's asking something about me. My heart started pounding and then the interpreter turned to me and said, "Mr. Kawamoto wants to know if the Jet cosplayer's beard is his real facial hair". The crowd laughed and applauded and my head swelled.
