What got you into cosplay?
Mostly the fact that I'm a costume designer in theater, and that I always loved designing costumes. I like being able to look at something on paper and figure out how I'm going to bring it to life.
What was your first costume and why?
Tifa Lockheart from Advent Children, because it was a relatively easy costume and it was a character I most closely matched in looks
What is your favorite costume and why?
Subaru from X/1999, because the costume looks very polished and clean, and I didn't take any shortcuts with it. The hakama pants are real hakama pants, which is the first time I've made something authentically instead of taking a shortcut.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Hinoto-hime from X/1999
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I think San Japan, as a whole. I spent most of the con helping other people fix broken bits of their costumes, and it was pretty gratifying.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Most of the time, although sometimes not. I never compete at A-kon because it's entirely too much hassle, but at any other convention it's probably a given that I'm competing.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Hmmmm. Probably Anime Matsuri 1, where we were turning around to leave and then they announced that Shoeless (good friends of mine) had won best in show.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
No, I haven't. All the rest of the people in my group (Beansalad, Shoeless) have, but I have yet to win anything.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm going into my sophomore year in college at Adelphi University, about twenty minutes outside of NYC. This has caused me to take a pretty big break from cosplaying for a while, since I can't afford to go to any conventions on the east coast.
I've lived in Texas almost my entire life, and while I love NYC, I think Texas still has my heart deep down. I'll probably always live here.
