What got you into cosplay?
It was around mid-2006 when I first got into cosplaying. I've touched on the idea of it before that, but I had no idea it had a name such as 'cosplay.' I've always admired the looks of anime characters... cool hair and cool clothes, what's not to like? So cosplaying has become a way for me to express that desire, and adopt those styles for at least a weekend. I've adopted them further; my everyday look is somewhat anime-influenced as well.
What was your first costume and why?
Sora, from Kingdom Hearts II (black/yellow costume), because I absolutely adore his personality and look. He has an incredible sense of justice, despite his naivety, and although his journey is a bit of a frantic one it's also giving him so many incredible experiences. I find the character to be incredibly likable. He's also quite popular, so it's fun hanging around as him... I've made a ton of friends from it.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Sora, for the reasons above. Even once I cosplay another character and others beyond that, this Sora costume will always be my favourite because it's my first and therefore the most-special to me.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Haseo from .hack//G.U. in his first form (or his Xth... that's even more of a dream). I've absolutely fallen in love with this character. I find him to be an amazing antihero who becomes a hero one can admire. The series is brilliant and fun to play, and the anime was just plain entertaining. Plus Haseo is absolutely gorgeous. Another reason why this is my dream costume is because in order to wear it without shame I'd have to get my stomach slim. It'd be a real testament to my goal in losing weight.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
It was at my very first convention, Katsucon '07. It was the Thursday night of the event, and I went ahead and got into my costume for the fun of it... everyone else was lol. So, I go downstairs and I am terrified because I had heard horror stories of overenthusiastic glompers, and I'm nervous because it's the first time I've ever dressed up in costume in public (except for Halloween). I went downstairs and I was stopped for a picture almost immediately by someone really nice. He helped me pose and really made me feel at ease with cosplaying right from the start. After he left my friend, Trir, tells me that that guy was Eurobeat King. I would have been embarrassed, but I had no idea who he was at the time lol. It was very memorable, and I thank you EBK for unknowingly getting me over my nervousness. I had a great time at the convention.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not yet, but I certainly would love to be in one.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
No... I haven't worn any costumes that are 100% made by myself, so I haven't bothered to enter a contest yet. I probably will be entering a contest at Otakon '08, though, if all goes to plan.
Tell us a little about yourself
I just finished moving to Pennsylvania. I'll be going back to school within the next year or so... I'm not sure for what, but it may have to do with writing and travelling the world. I love video games (RPG's mostly), some anime, I'm getting back into an old LARP I used to go to, and I enjoy planning costumes.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I love long walks on the beach, dinner out, dancing... er, wait, wrong idea =p
My favorite anime
Gravitation, Naruto, .hack//roots, Fushigi Yuugi, YuGiOh, Hikaru no Go, Black Cat, Ouron Host Club (I didn't think I'd like it at first, and didn't the first couple of episodes, but it really grew on me and I wound up enjoying the series).
My favorite game(s)
Kingdom Hearts series, .hack//G.U. series, Final Fantasy series (well, some of them), World of Warcraft. I used to enjoy EverQuest (really the root of my gaming), but it got old quick after experiencing so many expansions within my 2.5 years of playing. I'm also going to be taking up Final Fantasy XI because my enjoyment in World of Warcraft has all but evaporated.
My favorite book(s)
Hmm... haven't read many books lately, but I always enjoyed the Harry Potter series, 1984, and I thought Anthem was also a good book.
My favorite character(s)
Sora (KH), Shuichi Shindou (Gravitation), and Haseo (.hack//G.U.). I also like Link (LoZ), and I typically love the main male characters from any Final Fantasy game (especially Vaan from FFXII... sure, he's annoying, but he's got that likeableness as well).
My favorite movies(s)
True Lies was a great culmination of comedy and action. I'd love to see more movies like that.
My favorite actors/actresses
Jim Carrey and Mike Myers because they typically know how to make me laugh. Any voice actors of my favourite characters as well. I also enjoy just about any movie with Angelina Jolie in it.
