What got you into cosplay?
My friends' shared interest with all things dress-up and all things anime.
They just keep adding fuel to the fire, often different friends, but no one helps to stop the addiction. Especially Ann, she's a devious monster, and lets me make terrible costumes.
What was your first costume and why?
Sailor Moon, i loved that show. I don't seem to into it anymore, but i still think the costumes are great fun. Then there were so many neat characters and designs in the Final Fantasy games, and so my first Convention costume was Irvine Kinneas from FF8. Oh man, shortest Irvine EVER!
What is your favorite costume and why?
Hrmm...I guess probably Ovelia, right now. Mostly because it looked deceptively simple, yet it ate months of time and money as well. Stupid appliques. Wait...favorite=time consuming?
Though it could be the DREADFUL Inu Yasha costume I bought for kicks at AX07, cause dang, why not? That and Ann wears ChickenHat when I wear it, there is no end to joy when ChickenHat is present. Bless its mighty creator.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Usually it's the next costume I'm making. Though there are a few that I'd like to make that I just am too self-conscious for. "But you made Yoko!" aye, but I modified it so that it was a little more concealing on the bum area. *sigh* Always working out when not costuming, riding horses, or working.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
When I attended AX07 with Ann, we had the honor and privilege of meeting and seeing some amazing cosplayers. Man, AX was just so great and filled with happiness :) Everyone was so nice despite my nervousness. People who've known me for awhile will argue tooth an nail, but I'm socially awkward and painfully shy unless surrounded by my comrades.
AX 08 also awesome, met GREAT people like the Crzy Crazy Rainbow Stars and Sean and Lacey and had so much fun hanging out with them and going to Disneyland :)
Do you participate in masquerades?
I didn't much for awhile, but I'm getting into them now. They are stressful, and TONS of fun! I really love having the opportunity to meet other cosplayers, and complement people directly. Also I love hearing about how people have tackled the various challenges that each costume offers.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Doing the "Chocobo Dance" my friend Jen made up. Also finally participating with my buddy Ann, that was really awesome.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
At College my pirate costume won a Halloween contest, but other than that, no awards (and no worries ^^)
Tell us a little about yourself
I am an Art History/Studio Art double major from Beloit College in Beloit, WI. But that part of my life is over, so moving on:
I was a camp councilor, European "guest," lived near Chicago for awhile, and now I'm "living the dream" in Boulder. If "living the dream" includes hiking, biking, riding horses, costuming, drawing, reading, working and snowboarding, I'm so there. :D
I may pursue graduate work in Equine Sciences, or some kind of art, or secondary education. I still need time to think before returning to school.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I just think I'd like to say, don't take life or hobbies to seriously. Have fun, be passionate, but don't get so involved that silly things upset you.
I speak as a former offender of cosplay is serious business. Ann and Kate and other close friends snapped me out of that, thank goodness, cons are much more pleasant now.
My favorite anime
Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann, Host Club, Kenshin, Fruits Basket, Twelve Kingdoms, Master of Mosquiton, Escaflowne, FullMetal Alchemist, Naruto, DNAngel on and on and on...
My favorite game(s)
I am rather fond of Final Fantasy Games, though I'm not nearly the gamer my friends are. I usually observe or only play parts of games. I know, it's a bit of my ADD thing, too much to do, I often am drawing or sewing while someone else is playing the game. I give advice and get enthralled by the storyline and characters.
My favorite book(s)
I like the Sabriel trilogy, Indian Givers is a fascinating history, and I like mostly genre fiction. Fantasy and Historical being my favorite genres :)
