What got you into cosplay?
I've been interested in cosplaying since I first became obsessed with anime in general... what drove me to actually cosplay was my friend's invitation to go to the Big Apple Anime Fest with him.
What was your first costume and why?
Mikael from Tenshi ni Narumon was my first costume. Other than the fact that I'm a masochist for the idea, (he's not a well-known character) I adore Mikael (and his beloved Raphael) beyond all else and already had the wig, (which I had bought on an impulse about two years before) so I decided to cosplay him!
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume is Goron Tunic Link from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Cosplaying as Link was my dream for many years (it still is, but I must improve my accessories and create more costumes for him first!) I was saddened when my inspiration was deferred, yet years later, I was enthralled and challenged to assume the endeavor again. The greatest aspect was the nostalgia of utilizing my extensive costume notes and sketches that I created years before in order to execute the design, as well as to make all of my favorite accessories from the game. It brings me a special joy when my compatriots request to carry my accessories (I shall never forget when my friend Mark dedicated several minutes to reflecting light from my Mirror Shield onto the cieling at Connecticon.)
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
From the beginning of my anime obsession and especially since I finally began to cosplay, I have had several "dream costumes." The two most significant of those were, of course, Michiru/Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon and Rosiel from Angel Sanctuary. What gives me a great amount of hope is I'm planning to make costumes for both of those characters for Anime Boston 2004... needless to say, I'm very excited to be making them!
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Ooh, I have *plenty* of those. :::grins::: Street cosplay is *always* memorable, (once, a man strolled over to Mike and I, clad in our Angel Sanctuary costumes, and exclaimed, "hace frio!") but the actual con provides many highlights... At the end of the first day of Anime Boston, a girl approached me and said I was her hero! I was so flattered, I didn't know what to say! So, of course, I gave her a bear hug. The second day, another girl gave me a necklace and said I was one of her favorite cosplayers... that made the entire experience worthwhile. Another highlight was when Seiya and I became *Pleather Buddies!* :::giggles::: (See my gallery for details. ^^)
Do you participate in masquerades?
Indeed! I love to write and create possible routines, and it is always a joy to perform on stage.
What was your best masquerade experience?
My best masquerade experience in regards to performance was most definitely Shoujocon 2003. Though I won nothing, I had an absolute blast there. I was very proud of the skit I wrote (even moreso with Jen/Mad Hatter's exquisite acting skills) and we did our best while performing. That was my first experience with an organized, personalized event and I absolutely loved being a part of it... the rehearsal helped immensely, as well as the break between (Jen and I went to Aeva's room afterward and ate fudge... I swear, Aeva and her roommates are my *family.* XD) Concerning the general experience (in regards to participation and viewing) was at Anime Boston 2004...
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes, I have. ^_^ My first award was for Craftsmanship at Anime Boston 2004 for my black vinyl Rosiel costume (As it includes the cape, references spanned from Angel Sanctuary manga volumes 4-7) 'Twas a tremendous honor for my work to be recognized!
Tell us a little about yourself
:::Faints:::
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I do not lay claim to any characters I cosplay, unless I specifically state that he or she is original... to falsely declare myself as the pure identity of a character or series would be to blatantly dishonor all that labored to create it. I costume to pay tribute, not to defile.
My favorite anime
Current favorite: Angel Sanctuary Prior favorites: Tenshi ni narumon, Utena, Sailor Moon (and I love many more as well!)
My favorite game(s)
