What got you into cosplay?
A love of dress-up and costuming.
What was your first costume and why?
Sanzo from Saiyuki. One of the members of my cosplay team suggested we go to a convention and this was our anime of the moment at that point in time. We cosplayed with a group of people but ended up with a solid three person cosplay team out of the experience.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
My goal is to make an AMAZING Armitage III costume because the character kicks ass and the costume is so cool.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes! My cosplay team and I tend to focus our efforts on making great skits for every convention we go to. Though we are starting to consider competing in craftsmanship categories now that we've been making costumes for a while.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Best Skit - PortCon Maine '04; Best Performance in Novice Division - OhayoCon '06; Judges Award: Best Performance - AB '06; Best Performance in Novice Division - OhayoCon '07; Best Performance in Journeyman Division - OhayoCon '08; Emcee's Award - AB '08; Staff Ribbon for "Great Cosplay" - AB '08; Performance Honorable Mention - OhayoCon '09; 2nd Place Master Craftsmanship - AB '09; 1st Place Master Presentation - AB '09; Staff Ribbon for "Great Cosplay" - AB '09; Runner-up Adult Advanced Craftsmanship (friday judging) - CTcon '09; Best Performance in Master Division - OhayoCon '10
Tell us a little about yourself
I am a graduate of Mount Holyoke College with a BA in Psychology. I don't have much of an idea where life is going to take me from this point onward, but I plan to leave time to keep making costumes and keep attending at least one convention per year. I don't watch anime as much as I used to, but I still love reading manga, listing to J-pop and J-rock, watching Asian films (usually horror), and Japanese fashion and culture. I'm also really into foreign films in general, asian drama's (Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese), pop culture, reading, music, sewing, and knitting.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I am one of three members of Human Sushi Cosplay; the other two being my amazing and talented best friends J'aimie (tartlet) and Sara (eye-ris).
