What got you into cosplay?
Cosplay is something expected at Anime Conventions, it's just something one must do to experience the whole thing. Everyone enjoys getting dressed up, too, so it's all good. I love the freedom and attention I get when I cosplay, as most of my life is restricted otherwise.
What was your first costume and why?
My first 'costume' was Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho because I was still a complete and utter n00b. It was a simple outfit someone with no experience like me could pull off.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Hmm... that's a tough question. I'm torn between Envy from Full Metal Alchemist, Kaitou from Hunter x Hunter, and Greed!Hughes from Full Metal Alchemist.
Envy was fun because of all the work put in to pulling him/it together. My dream was to get a band of seven together and have all seven sins, but it fell through a month or so before the Con (Fanime06), and we ended up with only five. I was originally supposed to be Lust, but I fell in love with getting into the palm tree mood.
Hunter x Hunter, and hence Kaitou, are relatively unknown, so it wasn't the "OMG, I know who you are" photo-ops, it was the "OMFG, that scythe is HUGE, let me take your picture" photo-ops. I liked making that nine-foot scythe, and I LOVED carrying it around all day, and I had the time of my life destroying it at the end of the day.
Greed!Hughes comes from an RPG site I'm on, and let's just say that I've been working on a military uniform for the past month or so...
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
These aren't so much dreams that I'd like to see myself in, but they're ones I'd like to see--done well, mind you.
Movie!Gluttony from Full Metal Alchemist--It would be the ultimate group cosplay!
Ryuk from Death Note--Just... Shinigami, man.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
At FanimeCon06, I cosplayed Envy and participated in the Full Metal Alchemist photo shoot. First we were grouped and moved around and photographed, and regrouped and moved around some more, and photographed by the professional photographers. Then there were the fan service shots for the the yaoi/yuri pairings (I will admit I kissed an Ed. XD and had a mock-cat-fight... >.>U And got felt up by an Ed and a Roy... And had my skort looked up by several different characters... Neeway...)
After everyone was satisfied and the flashes stopped going off, we all headed down the block to Jack In the Box and got lunch, then headed back to the Convention Center and just hung out and got to know one another--the people behind the cosplay. It was a really great experience.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I haven't yet, but I've a plan with a friend willing to cosplay Greed to sing "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" with me as Envy (I hope everyone's seen the AMV). It's still in the planning stages, but I hope it works out. It might pop up at FanimeCon08.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Fanime06 (once again) was my first attendance of a Masquerade, and I must say it was the best four hours of my life. All the skits were wonderful, the announcer was amusing, and of course, there were the ever-present yet elusive "stage ninja" that you cannot see. Ever. XD
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not yet--but I hope to!
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm currently a Senior in high school. I'm the techie of the Anime Club I was President for last year, as well as the President of the Chess Club, a member of GSA, Writer's Club, Recycling Club, and National Honors Society (NHS). I run Cross Country in the fall and Track & Field in the spring.
I don't have too many friends, but the ones I have are close. We do a lot together, and somehow always spend more time than we should in Borders at the mall. w00t for huge anime sections!
Family life... nngh. Let's not go there. We'll just say I will be a happy person when college comes, and when I'm legally free to move to Alaska and be ridden of them forever.
I love reading and writing, though have seemed to hit a bump in the road lately. I have had my first poem published, and the book should be due out soon. Look for Soul Disclosure, and the poem "Artificial Dreams." I also role play on a few sites in my spare time.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I love my bitch!
