It shouldn't surprise me that I was easily suckered into cosplay at my first anime con: my family had already decided they'd be cosplaying, and I hate to be the odd one out -- and I'll always seize the opportunity to dress up in a strange outfit.
It's amazing how a hobby like this snowballs, though. While I haven't had nearly as much time as I'd like to work on cosplays, I've got more than enough work in progress to make up for that (never mind that it's not a valid comparison -- shush!). Now, if only I'd manage to get things done more often ...
Culprits responsible from dragging me away from cosplay: work (the number one offender, of course), writing, books, Renaissance Faires, tabletop gaming, causing mischief, and the perpetual exercise in procrastination. I live in a ridiculously overpriced southern California town that's a crazy study of contrasts and lacks a proper fabric/craft store for those of us who sew clothes (as opposed to overpriced quilting or home decor stores), but I get paid enough to get by and the LA Fabric District's less than two hours away, so I can't complain too much.
Now, if only I got paid more so that I could work less and bring more of my cosplay plans to fruition!
