What got you into cosplay?
I went to A-kon 2001 with my mother and sister, which was my first convention, and completely fell in love with the atmosphere and everything involved with conventions. And I knew that the next year, I'd have to be there in costume regardless. Therefore, Yuna was born.
What was your first costume and why?
Summoner Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Originally I'd planned for Garnet from Final Fantasy IX, but sadly I'm not suited to wear yellow spandex. ^_^ So after seeing the character art and designs for Yuna, my mother thought it would be a fun costume to work on. I made sure she knew what she was getting herself into because I'm a stickler for detail, and then the rest is history. ^_^ Yuna debuted at A-kon 2002.
What is your favorite costume and why?
DoC Lucrecia has the top spot in my heart because it was so much fun to wear. It was completely comfortable, even in the heels, and getting to spend the weekend with Brian, who was sweet enough to go as my Turk Vincent, was just incredible. I wouldn't trade that time for anything. My Summoner Yuna is right up there, too, because it was my first costume ever and of course has a lot of memories attached to it.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Lucrecia's cave dress from DoC. Of course, that's going to take a lot of work in more ways than one. :)
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Otakon 2003, where I debuted Trinity for the first time. I ran into three Neos, a huge group of Agents, and a Morpheus over the course of the days. The photo shoots were fantastic. And then of course the cosplay picnic and the showings of Revolutions .. oh, the madness.
Then at A-kon 15, I had another experience to add to the chaos. I went to the Harry Potter and the PoA premiere Thursday night at midnight with three friends who dressed as Harry and Snape. I wore a Hermione costume that my friend and I put together in the room at the last minute. We actually ended up being interviewed by Fox 26 news outside the theater. It was definitely one of the neatest things I've ever had the chance to do. The interview didn't air, of course, because that would have been beyond awesome, but we still had a wonderful time.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sometimes. I've only been in two, but I've thought about doing more in the future. It just depends a lot on who I'm with and what costume I'm wearing.
What was your best masquerade experience?
A-kon 2002.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Best In Show at ChibiCon 2003.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm working towards figuring out just what I want to do with my life. It's that difficult transition time where I'm just not sure, so when I am .. I'll let you know!
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Aside from anime and costuming, I'm a fan of Broadway and all things related to theatre. New York City has to be one of my favorite places to visit, and whenever I have the chance, I'm attending a performance.
My favorite anime
Project A-ko, Lily C.A.T., Cyber City OEDO 808 - my sister and I were always more into the lesser known animes that happened to appear on television at random times.
My favorite game(s)
Final Fantasy VII, Vampire: the Masquerade Bloodlines, Nights Into Dreams, and anything on the old school Nintendo.
My favorite book(s)
Anything by Stephen King, especially The Dead Zone.
My favorite character(s)
Lucrecia Crescent (FFVII), Aerith Gainsborough, Yuna, Garnet, and a lot more.
My favorite movies(s)
Kill Bill and Schindler's List. I've never been so completely taken by a film before. And of course since the nickname gives it away, I have to confess that I am a sort of Matrix fan. I also love Mel Brooks, my favorite movie of his being The History of the World.
My favorite actors/actresses
Stacy Haiduk, Alice Krige, Deborah Kara Unger, Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Liam Neeson.
