What got you into cosplay?
I've been sewing since an early age. (And knitting, crafting, croqueting, ect.) So, when I first discovered the concept of cosplay, I took to it rather quickly.
What was your first costume and why?
Technically, my first cosplay would be Kingdom Hearts Halloween Sora, at AnimeNext 2003. It was my first ever attempt at sewing a full outfit for a deadline and looking back at it, It was really badly made.
What is your favorite costume and why?
That's really hard to say. For Cosplay, I'd have to say Saber. But overall, It'd have to be a costume I work on for the play, "Imaginary Invalid" I custom made a peacock hat from scratch in about an hour and a half, right before the show. The judges from the association picked my piece as their favorite in the production.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
One dream costume done, two more to go.
I'm currently designing a custom black and gold pirate outfit. If I could ever get the funding, I'd love to make it.
The other would be a humanized version of bahamut. A more finished, regal version. Something with furs, and cloaks, jeweled satin and silk.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
When I attended AnimeBoston 2005, I met a group of little kids outside of the Convention center while dressed as Moo-chan. The mothers mistook me for an entertainer and I was asked to give the kids hugs and pose for pictures. I work with kids at my job, so this wasn't a problem. A little girl put my glove on her head. ^-^
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes, but I'm not so sure if I should continue. After seeing the judging a high level costumer's competitions, Cosplay judging just seems to be all about the judge's personal tastes rather than actual craftsmanship.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Masq. - Muu-chan at AB. I just sort of walked across stage to really bouncy music but for once I wasn't nervous (has really bad stage fright)
Chess - Also as Muu. At Connecticon, there was this one part of the game where, I think it was Browser, Stared across at me since we all knew I'd be taken next. I tryed to act a little by making a scared jesture and pretending to cry. A Chi cosplayer must have gotten this que and comforted poor Muu. Collective 'Awwww's were heard throughout the audience.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yep ^^
Best Costume Design: AnimeBoston 2006 - Bahamut - Final Fantasy X
Best Scratchbuilt + Best Prop: Connecticon 2006 - Rody, Suikoden III
Most intricate detail - Connecticon 2007 - Saber, Fate/Stay Night
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm currently attending Alfred University, as a Costume Design/Technical Theater Major. I work on pieces for regional costume competitions. After I graduate with a bachelors, I'm interested in attending FIDM in California. (Was accepted out of high school, but I wanted to add more to my resume) My goal is to work as a movie/tv costume designer.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I'm very meek, 'specially since I've grown up with friends who can do a 180 with their moods. I do like to strike up a conversation with people I don't know, just to relax a bit and hopefully swap experiences.
