What got you into cosplay?
I love trying to recreate costumes from my fandoms, and then when I went to Oak Park for the second time for their Diagon Alley event (2005, for the release of book 6) I wanted to dress up since I had seen so many costumed characters when I went for the book 5 release. Plus I was trying to think of a new activity to get me out and socializing a little more because I kind of went into hiding after breaking up with my ex-boyfriend over a year ago. :)
What was your first costume and why?
Hermione from Harry Potter, for the Diagon Alley celebration for the book 6 release.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Captain Jack Harkness. He's such a great character to crossplay, I put that Coat on and I just totally get into character. Plus, the best part about that costume is the POCKETS! Three in the coat, four in the pants, plus a shirt pocket, so I don't have to carry a bag of any kind :D
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Gibson from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! would be a total dream, but the hard part is figuring out the head (those monkeys have odd-shaped heads). I'd also love to do Gambit from X-Men and either Sailor Mars or Sailor Pluto from Sailor Moon.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Meeting Stephen Silver, lead character designer for Danny Phantom. I was walking through Wizard World's artist alley and he spotted me in my Dani Phantom costume! To be recognized by the man who created the character was a HUGE honor!
Do you participate in masquerades?
No, not yet! But I'd like to!
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not yet, but I'd love to.
Tell us a little about yourself
Just returned to school, in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Dominican University in River Forest, IL, working toward a Masters of Library and Information Science. Loving it so far -- the professors there are terrific! I love crafting, writing fiction, Nintendo, creating computer graphics, and I'm interested in tons of fandoms. Too many actually :) I've been getting back into writing fanfiction again, and will be working on National Novel Writing Month again this year.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I'm really interested in finding out more places I can cosplay, I need an excuse to make more costumes ;)
