What got you into cosplay?
I had been an anime fan for a while, and I think I heard about cosplay online. Naturally, I wanted to give it a try--and after a few conventions, my conviction to try this strange, awesome new hobby was cemented.
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume was Pikachu. I've been a big Pokémon fan since I was nine years old, and seeing as Pokémon is what got me into anime in the first place, I thought it would be fitting to make a tribute to it with my first costume.
What is your favorite costume and why?
So far, my favorite costume is Teto--but I feel like my cosplay skills are constantly improving, so I have a feeling my latest costume will always be my favorite.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Right now, I have Boota from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Densuke from Dennou Coil planned, and I guess those are what I dream of doing. I try to go for my dream cosplay as immediately as possible--might as well go for it, right? My upcoming costumes are ones I dream of and look forward to.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I have so many! But one amusing one was when a girl came up and challenged me to a foam swordfight at Fanime 2005--while I was in my Kumagorou costume (read: a pink bunny suit). I was reluctant because of my restricted mobility due to the costume, but I decided to give it a try, and lo and behold--I somehow beat her! Her male companion came up later and told me I was the first person to beat her so far at the convention (and this was on Sunday).
It made me smile. :)
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not yet, but I would like to someday! Maybe when my friends and I manage to do cosplay that's actually coordinated within the same series. We're usually so scattered series-wise that a skit would be difficult.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm an Animal Science major hoping to be a wildlife or avian veterinarian. During the summer, I rehab wild birds (mostly crows, jays, and magpies, but plenty of other species, too) and occasionally help with the fawns.
I love writing, drawing, cosplay (of course!), and all sorts of different anime series.
