What got you into cosplay?
I always enjoyed medieval stuff and got into Ren Faires about 4 years ago... I figured it'd be nice to break the traditional mold and maybe dress up as Link. Fast forward 3 years and well, I've browsed through this site a few times before but just registerd recently! (6-25-03) I've attended one con locally where there was some cosplay but I was no where near ready. I'm REALLY wanting to go to a con sometime soon once things are finished.
What was your first costume and why?
Link (once I'm actually done with it), because Zelda ROCKS!! I really don't know what it was exactly that made me choose to do Link... Perhaps getting a sword, or maybe the ears but either way this will be my first costume - modeling off of Ocarina of Time's Adult Link. (leaning towards realism)
What is your favorite costume and why?
If I can even claim to really have one so far, then it's the one I've been working on for easily the past 3 years. I was lucky enough to have the time and money to spend to make my things look very nice. The equipment is very stunning to see in person!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
*Does that as I speak*....
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
That would have to be building my costume right now... It's very exciting when a new part is completed! It feels very cool and sorta strange all at the same time :) Otherwise, probably being up on stage for my first time @ Otakon 2004. I felt so nervous when the group before me went, but onstage it just was exciting, (and blinding). Essentially all cons have been memorable for many reasons though.
Do you participate in masquerades?
So far I've attempted two, and took awards in one. At Otakon 2004 I got recognized for Runner-Up Novice Craftsmanship, Novice Honorable Mention, and a Judge's Award, however I didn't know until I checked online two days after.
I'll definitely consider competing again in the future but so far do not know when.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Definitely seeing a million flashes at Jafax while on the platform. I'd never seen so many camera flashes in my life o.O. Personally I felt equally excited but had botched up at Otakon to not qualify it as a "best" for me. Handling of awards / audio I felt wasn't as good as the first con either, but everyone did work hard.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
So far yes, three at Otakon 2004:
Runner up Novice Craftsman
Novice Honorable Mention
Judge's Award (or presentation you could say)
Tell us a little about yourself
Attending the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture for a Master's Degree, as well as Bachelors in History and Philosophy. Once it comes toward summer though generally it's a stay at home kinda deal. When I am working I tend to enjoy my job a lot. I love games, anything Zelda, and enjoy most any type of music (mostly game and movie soundtracks).
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Please understand that my name was made long before I had ever known of cosplay. I did not intend for it to be taken literally - that is, I am the "only" or "best" Link. My beginning ambitions had started for a "realistic" Link on the basis of the renaissance faire community and cosplay came later. I respect and honor all Links (and cosplayers for that matter) regardless of their methods. Regarding current issues of commissioning, I know what I have done wrongfully in the eys of some, however that will absolutely not detour me from my quest.
My favorite anime
Only seen a little Cowboy Bebop, a few episodes of Naruto, about an equal amount of Inital D, and Macross 0 1-4. So far I find Macross 0 to be my favorite because it's simply drop-dead gorgeous, has seemingly developed characters / plot, and superb animation quality IMO - but Inital D ties for a close 2nd :)
My favorite game(s)
heh I should just make catergories for this one:
Any Zelda game (Esp Ocarina of Time).
The Smash Bros. games.
Final Fantasy games but that does depend on which one it is. Original on NES (1) is one of my all time fav's. 2 and 3 (or 4 and 6 depending on how you number them) on SNES are also among the best. 7 was fun and cool! 8... eh ok but still cool theme, chars, and places. Have yet to play 9 and 10 was extremely cool and well presented I think. *is currently obsessively absorbed totally into XI - see sig^^*
Rampage,!!! Kid Icarus, some Punch Out, Maniac Mansion,
maybe a little GT3 and Vice City...
Soul Calibur II!!!
On the PC it's been some mapping for Duke Nukem 3D for easily 7 years now...
Ultima Online (Chesapeake) nearing 5 years before FFXI,
CounterStrike!! (excellent scouter)
My favorite book(s)
By far LOTR.. just finished them recently. Also enjoy
Guinness world record books and anything skyscraper related!
My favorite character(s)
Link!! Zelda / Sheik, Link!, Samus, Mario, Link again!
My favorite movies(s)
Both LOTR so far, Titanic, most Disney movies (they are fun), Speed, Matrix, Entrapment, True Lies, Towering Inferno (1974), Earthquake, Both Posseiden Aventures, hmmm... too many to list!
My favorite actors/actresses
Keanu Reeves, Sean Connery, Catherine-Zeta-Jones, Pierce Brosnan, Arnold, ...ok some Decaprio, Segual, Stallone, Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper played some interesting roles... Most of the people from LOTR (too many) and Jennifer Anisten ... I'm sure there's more but that'll do it for now.
