What got you into cosplay?
Love of theater. My parents got me involved in acting at the ripe old age of three, and I fell in love with the costume and prop aspect more than the acting side. I've always really liked the act of making things (less so the part where I mess up and have to fix mistakes, but....), so cosplay was a good outlet for all my crafty weirdness. From there I guess it was a natural extension of Halloween dress-up, too.
What was your first costume and why?
NyanNyan from Fushigi Yuugi and Sizer from Violinist of Hameln. They were cheap, they were easy, and I was poor and just starting middle school. Neither costume has survived the years, and I sometimes think I'd like to redo them, for old times' sake, but that'll probably never happen. Oh well.
What is your favorite costume and why?
L - Death Note. Barefoot? Check. Shirt and jeans? Check. Bedhead? Check. Super comfortable, super easy.
My Death Note is also very handy for jotting down fellow cosplayers' names and addresses. Hee!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Lady LovelyLocks (oh yes! showing my age!)
Ion (Tales of the Abyss)
Sarah (Suikoden III)
Shiori, Rose Bride (Utena)
Kusuriuri (Mononoke)
What else? Who knows. Anything that catches my eye, most likely, and a lot of things catch my eye.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Anything involving making shoes, probably. With Fran's shoes, I made mistakes while making them, forgot to tape my feet before wearing them, and tore myself open. Ow ow ow. With Rosa's, I burned myself I don't know how many times putting all the pieces together. Shoes are painful.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yep. As part of "i can has cosplay" I've participated at Otakon 07 and ACen 08. We're not sure what we have in the works for the future.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Nancing about on stage in a glorified swimsuit, wearing a pool floatie shaped like a bird.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Judge's Award, "Second Annual Best Use of Queen", Otakon 2007.
Judge's Award, Acen 2008.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a third year art student, though my father no doubt wishes I were a history student. I knit, I bake, I play entirely too many video games and read much too much Jane Austen.
I write more than I draw, which is pretty backwards, but I'd have never survived as an English major, so there you go.
