What got you into cosplay?
The characters! So many awesome characters, so many awesome designs, so little time (and money...)
What was your first costume and why?
Haruhara Haruko, from FLCL. I love Haruko! It was a straight-forward costume where I could purchase most of what I needed and only had to design the orange vest. What really clinched me into cosplaying her was when my friend bought me a pair of aviator goggles. That's really what started it all.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I tend to always be head-over-heels for whatever is my newest creation. Shaak Ti was my favorite for a while, then Alice Seno, then Princess Eries... And now? Hands down, Kyoshi Warrior Suki. LOVE IT.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Of course - and some of them I've succeeded in! My first big dream was Lotis Master Alice Seno from "Alice 19th;" the next was Hermes, Junpei Iori's summoned creature from the video game "Persona 3;" then I couldn't stop thinking about Princess Eries from "Vision of Escaflowne." Most recently, Kyoshi Warrior Suki went from dream to reality. I try to make my dreams happen! But do I have some unrealized cosplay dreams? Yes: Lia de Beaumont from the cover of the first book of the "Chevalier d'Eon" manga and Yuuko Ichihara in the Victorian riding habit from the cover of "xxxHolic."
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Two, in fact: Making a Chewbacca costume for Mythbuster Adam Savage with some 30,000 individual knots of hand-tied hair, and winning first place in the 2009 Anime Boston Intermediate Division of the Hall Costume Contest with my Hermes costume.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Nah. Me + acting = fail.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Anime Boston 2009: First Place Intermediate Division Hall Costume Contest for Hermes.
Granite State Comic Con 2011: First Place for Kyoshi Warrior Suki.
Arisia 2008: Staff Spot Costume Award for Shaak Ti.
Yomise/AAC April 2008: 3rd place informal costume contest for Death.
I was going to enter the costume contest at Boston Comic Con 2011 as Zatanna, but they had an emergency judge shortage, and I was bumped from participant to one of four judges.
Tell us a little about yourself
What, there are hobbies OTHER than cosplaying?
No, really, I do some 2D art and writing, reading, and I dabble in music. I work at an excellent biotech company as a researcher (No, it's not NERV). I'm a big nerd pretty much all the way across the board.
