What got you into cosplay?
My daughter got me into it by having such a fabulous time wearing her Cagalli Yulla Atha costume to Sakura-con 2007. This made me decide it should become a family hobby... and here we are now, surrounded by fabric, a brand new sewing machine and scroll saw, piles of sewing notions and wood for making props....
What was your first costume and why?
The first costumes I made were a Bleach group for my family to wear to Anime Evolution 2007. My husband was Aizen, I was Soi Fong, my daughter (12) was Urahara Kisuke as 12th Division Captain, and my son (6) was Zaraki Kenpachi.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Well, I am hoping to pull off a Dio Eraclea costume for myself this year... but out of the ones I've made so far, I'm quite pleased with the Kawasumi Mai (Kanon 2006) costume for my daughter because it was the first time I made something entirely from scratch with no pattern.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Dio Eraclea. See above!
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I've only had one cosplay experience so far, but it was quite fun to see my son hamming it up when he wore his Kenpachi costume.
Do you participate in masquerades?
No.
Tell us a little about yourself
I am the weirdest suburban mom that I know. I drive my kids to school, swimming, music lessons and taekwondo in a minivan, but I spent all my free time making costumes, watching anime and my ipod is full of J-pop. Somehow in the middle of all this I'm also a university student working on a computing science degree.
My favorite anime
Last Exile. Do yourself a favour and watch this gorgeous anime if you haven't seen it.
I also like Bleach, Naruto, D.Gray-man, Kanon 2006, Yakitate!! Japan, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Ouran Host Club.
