What got you into cosplay?
I heard about A-kon from the comic book store I went to many a year ago and dragged my dad to Dallas for it. And when I got there, I was like, "OMG there are these <i>people</i> and they're wearing these <i>things</i> and it's so <i>cool</i> and <i>I</i> wanna do that!"
What was your first costume and why?
Sabin from FFVI - it was easy and I was new to cosplay and had never sewn a stitch in my life. It was all bought and it was <i>awful</i>. No pictures survive, thank god. And now I have a newer version that's MUCH better!
What is your favorite costume and why?
Ritsu is really comfortable... But I'm also very proud of my Sabin and Larsa cosplays. I worked very hard on both of them (not that I don't work hard on my other costumes, but those are special to me).
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
- Edea from FFVIII with working spring-loaded metal pieces
- Ultimecia from FFVIII
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
When my costumes are personally complimented by people I admire and respect. Like when Gren complimented my Nikki outfit. Or, even more exciting, when I participated in the Amano cosplay showcase and Yoshitaka Amano <i>himself</i> said that my Sabin costume was the only one he had <i>ever seen</i> that matched his vision for the character. Excuse me while I squee like a little girl.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I never have - something always comes up. Either I can't go or it gets canceled or <i>something</i>.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
One - my Duct Tape Sailor Star Healer won Judge's Choice in the Hall Cosplay at A-kon 2006.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm currently attending UTSA. I'm single, gay, a hug yaoi fan, unemployed and I play video games and read when I'm not cosplaying.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
While none of my costumes are officially retired, I am always making more, so it's rare to see me in the same costume more than once.
I try to plan my costume debuts around anniversary dates. For example, my Star Healer was debuted for the 10th anniversary of the SMSS manga.
