What got you into cosplay?
Costumeing has been something I've done since I was in second grade so naturaly it's something I want to do for a living. But what actuatualy got me into going to cons is that I got my neighbors mail by mistake and a con flier was in it and I saw and add for the masquerade. So I went "why the hell not?"
What was your first costume and why?
The Cat Who Walked Through Walls at BayCon. I had just seen "Cats" and really liked the costumes and I was reading the Hignlein book so naturaly...
What is your favorite costume and why?
"The Blood Countess Carmila" of course. It was the most challenging and the most fun to make. In fact I've been revamping her since I made her and she keeps getting better and better. I also felt really strongly drawn to the character for some reason. It must be the Goth in me.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Oh... where to begin? Where to begin?
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Cosplaying "Carmila" at the Ren Fair. It was a lot of fun acting in charecter and I got a lot of compliments. Though wearing the costume to the opening night of my exboyfriend's goth club was a close second.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I participated in my first Masquerade Baycon 2002. But I don't do it regualy. Making the costume and wearing it is really what I live for. While it's nice to get awards for them it isn't why I make them and it certainly dosen't matter that much to me whether I win anything or not when I do participate in masquerades. I usualy enter them at the bequest of friends or because one of my friends is going to do so as well. I admit I do like performing and I do like the attention but my heart still lies in the mere creation of the costumes.
What was your best masquerade experience?
The whole thing was great. Every body was really nice and I met these two girls who were also in gothy atire and we got refered to as the "Goth Nitting Circle" it was really funny.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I won a hall costume award for my "Cat Who Walked Through Walls" costume. Another hall costume award for my "Sekmet" costume. And I won Best Novice for my "Carmila" costume at Baycon 2002 and a hall costume for the same costume the following year from the Costume Con folks. I wore my Alice costume to BayCOn 2004 and was offered a hall costume for it but as I was entered into the Masquerade I had to decline. I also recently won two awards at the BayCon 2005 Masquerade for my Soul Caliber 2's Ivy costume.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a Theatre Arts major (costume and makeup emphisis) at West Valley Colledge. I currently work at Debbie Lyn's Costumes in Sunnyvale. I'm love horror movies, anime, reading, drawing, fencing, flamenco dancing, jewelry making, Role Playing and playing video games. In other words I am a Geek of the highest order. I'm also into clubbing and just hanging out with friends.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I'm stuborn, opinionated, and outspoken. I don't care what others think of me because it takes too much energy to try and please others by catering to what they want and also because I figure if you're going to like me you're going to like me for who I am. I hate ignorence and stupidity but I love openmindedness.
