Lady Ava

As stated in the Q and A, I am a super senior at Hofstra University. Also, I'm a TV/Video major with a focus in on-air/post graphics. I have my own Live-action/AMV studio and work on various projects when I have free time.

I am self-taught in most of my sewing. My mother showed me how to hand-sew and my boyfriend showed me the basics of the sewing machine. After that, I moved on to experiment with different concepts and tada! Here I am today.

Cosplay is a stress-relief style hobby for me. There was a point where it was all I could think about, but its more along the lines on the back burner until I graduate and find a job. Its all for fun. And never think of it as anything else.

What got you into cosplay?
My first convention I went to (Otakon 2001) I was in awe at all the amazing costumes that I just had to try it.
What was your first costume and why?
Unoffical- Rei from Evangelion. Offical- Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Rei was a horrible disappointment. A friend's mother made it for me, and it was HUGE on me because it was sized to my friend who was twice the size of me. =/ Yuna was my dream costume at the time. It was flowly and pretty and it felt like a dream to wear. Completely handsewn because at the time I was "sewing machine=scary @_@"
What is your favorite costume and why?
I can honestly say that all of my costumes are my favorites. Otherwise, why would I have made them? But, as of right now, Sheik and Yuri are on the top of the list. Yuri because of the crazy amounts of detail on him and how clean it came out. Sheik for the whole aspect that I FINALLY cosplayed Sheik. <3 My first Yuna was done by hand, so it has a special meaning for me as well. <3
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I really don't think there IS such a thing as a dream costume. That's a good thing because why limit yourself? ^.~
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Meeting all of my great friends through this. My boyfriend and best friends are the one reason that I enjoy this so much. Friends make this community what it is today. Despite all the drama that I've lived through while being IN the community, the good outweighs the bad.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yessum. But I like to judge more than compete. While skits are good times, they can be really stressful too. @_@
What was your best masquerade experience?
Space Channel Alchemist. I destroyed some fandoms that night with some sequins and para-para. KH Dance-Off. CallieCat and I dancing all silly as Sora and Riku to MC Hammer. Fruits Baskets...FOOTBALL! Super Smash Heroes. Nothing like dancing and beating people up. Its AWESOME.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yessir. ^__^
Tell us a little about yourself
Well, I'm a senior @ Hofstra University. I'm film student with a minor in fine arts. I'm a big marching band person. I've done Color Guard for 4 years, but I've been spinning for 8. Cosplay is something that I like to do for fun. I don't plan on making this my career ever. It's a hobby that has been one of the best experiences in my life. Going to cons and hanging out with my friends is my greatest reward from cosplay. ^_^
