What got you into cosplay?
I've always liked dressing up, and sewing, and I have a really good friend who used to be really into both back in high school. It took me awhile to find my stride, but I'm glad to be there!
What was your first costume and why?
For my first convention, AX 2002, I had this really ghetto Kiki of Kiki's Delivery Service costume. I didn't really try for perfection. It was just a black dress, and a red bow. I even threw in knee-high black boots, because I was just that bad ass XD The first cosplay I actually sewed in any way was my Sailor Mercury costume. It was just her school uniform, and I made the shirt myself. It didn't look too bad, but I never really got any good pictures of it, and it was definately not my best work. The first costume I really count as my own, because I made all of it myself (minus some accessories, which friends helped on), was my Rose Bride dress. I made a lot of mistakes and learned a whole lot from it, and am still very proud of it.
What is your favorite costume and why?
So far, it would be my Anthy costume. I just love Revolutionary Girl Utena, and had always wanted to make a costume from it. I hope to do more costumes from the show at some point.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I've already made one of them, lol, and that's a great feeling. I do have a few left, though. I really want to cosplay Viki from Suikoden III, once I figure out how to do all the little details of her outfit. I suppose that's my next long-term goal, but I have a few smaller projects in mind also. Yuuko from xXxholic is also on the top of my dream-cosplay lists, its just so involved that I haven't gotten to it yet.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
My Anthy costume includes a gold crown. At the convention, I ran into an old friend, and understandably gave him a hug. However, I also stabbed him in the neck with my crown. Thank god it was just made of cardboard.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I haven't yet. I love watching them so much, I'm not sure I could stand not being in the audience, but I'm certainly not opposed to being in one some day.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm 21 years old, currently majoring in English with minors in Creative Writing and Film Studies. I'm interested in design of all kinds, specifically fashion or interior, though both are currently just hobbies or passing fancies.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I have a soft spot for girls in short blond wigs, and guys cosplaying Axel...shhh, don't tell anyone.
