What got you into cosplay?
I think it was probably the fact that when I was little I would dress up in random costumes (I was not and am still not the "normal" or "typical" girl). So when the opportunity to go to Otakon came up, I suppose so did dressing up!
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume was Rikku from FFX that I wore to Otakon '02. Prior to deciding I had been a fan of the secondary "happy" type chars (such as Yuffie and Selphie, FF9 didn't follow that because I don't like Eiko - so in 9 its Beatrix) and Rikku continued that trend and when my friends and I decided we wanted to go to Otakon I decided I wanted to get into cosplay, so I did!
What is your favorite costume and why?
I think my favorite costume right now is Twilight Suzuka from Outlaw Star. I've loved her for ages and have even used her as my alias on Team Fortress online (I play as Sniper). When my friend told me she was assembling an Outlaw Star group I immediately jumped for Suzuka. The costume itself looks very simplistic but was a great deal of work. I wanted it to be very authentic, but also true to the character with all details intact - the sloping hemline on the bottom, the purple susoyoke, her wrap, etc. A lot of work on a lot of small details, even to the point of hand making tassles. I love her to pieces and for once my height is useful ^_^.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I suppose right now that it's either Tira from Soul Calibur 3 or a mystery costume I've got planned for 2008 - they're both really detailed costumes that will require a lot of time AND money to make. Though Tira is already in progress ^^
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Winning Best Craftsmanship at Katsucon 06 for Blood Seras. I'm still trying to process it that I finally got recognized for once.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yeah, they're fun!
What was your best masquerade experience?
AnimeNEXT 03 - did a hilarious ffx-2 skit with my friend jen and we won! (judges award) but sadly it doesn't get counted for anything :( and we didn't get any prizes either... :( For this one I wasn't exactly 'in' the masque - I was a walk on - but when I walked on at Katsucon 06 with my Seras costume on, I got huge amounts of applause and cheers from the audience. Master_Arucard told me after I got offstage and hung out with them in the press pit that I got the most applause out of all the walkons, so that made me feel really happy. ^^
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yup. (finally! hehe) Best Craftsmanship - Katsucon 06 - Blood Seras Victoria 1st Place Friday - Tekkoshocon 06 - Blood Seras Victoria Best Craftsmanship (group/skit) - Tekkoshocon 06 - Rip Van Winkle / Hellsing
