What got you into cosplay?
“Star Trek: The Next Generation”. I’ve been a Science Fiction fan ever since I can remember. In the beginning I had the really stupid belief that I’m the only person watching “TNG”! But then I discovered soon that there were other “Star Trek” fans at my school and there’re also conventions where to meet other fans, actors and enjoy being fan of this and other shows.
And this was the just the beginning...
What was your first costume and why?
I don’t know whether commercial available “Star Trek” uniforms count as cosplay, but I actually have two of these uniforms since middle of the 1990’s.
My first completely self-made costume was the dress for Ambassador Delenn. Since I didn’t knew anything about sewing, I bought some books and asked friends for help and advice.
What is your favorite costume and why?
There’s something special within every costume and I like all of them for different reasons: sometimes it’s the character itself, sometimes it's the costume itself, sometimes it’s the incentive to make an accurate replica of an admired costume, sometimes it’s the fortuity to find a good matching fabric, trim or accessory, sometimes it’s the opportunity to be together with friends and be part of a group of people wearing costumes of the same theme…
And sometimes it’s due to something else: Eowyn’s white wool dress is special to me, because a dear friend of mine calls me “snowflake” when I wear it.
Padme’s dark senate gown and Eowyn’s green gown are my most favorite costumes. These two were the most challenging costumes ever. I’ve put a lot of effort in making them and we had to solve a lot of raised problem during their production. But they’re finished now and I’ve experienced some very nice moments with them.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Padme Amidala’s purple senate gown (also known as the Loyalist Committee Gown) from “Star Wars: Episode II”.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Celebration Europe 2007, London: The experience of such a huge “Star Wars” convention was really impressing. I met fans from all over the world, admired gorgeous fan costumes and won the 2nd price at the costume pageant.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sometimes I do.
I have some very creative friends and I can hardly refuse if one of them begs me for my participation. It’s a honor and pleasure to join them for a show.
What was your best masquerade experience?
There’re some: being killed by Gimli as an orc, being killed by a falling steel girder as Barriss Offee, be at Ambassador Kosh’s side as Delenn or being chased by ghost pirates as Elizabeth Swann.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
A few, but it doesn’t concern me. Costuming is one of my leisure-time activities. I make costumes for different reasons (e.g. the pleasure of wearing a specific costume or because I like the character or the dress itself), but I don’t make them to enter contests and win prices.
