What got you into cosplay?
I've always admired cosplayers, but I never thought I could do it myself. Then, a friend invited me to a cosplay party where cosplay was required. I realized I had everything to make a Hogwarts style costume, and I went. Ever since, I've been a big fan of cosplaying, and I do it whenever I can.
What was your first costume and why?
Rose Weasley. I love Harry Potter, and so I tend to boy a lot of props. I bought the tie, the skirt, the shoes, I finally found a cardigan, I even had a wand. I never thought to wear it all together until a cosplay party I was invited to, but when I did, I had a great time.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Lady Loki. I love Loki. I would crossplay as Loki, but I don't have the face for it. So, I dressed as the female version. It was entirely handmade by me, and it was great fun to make and wear. I even won a prize for being the best dressed at a local convention of sorts. It was the most fun I've had in a long time, so it's definitely my favourite.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Oh there are a million. Mostly crossplays, but I don't have the face so I'll probably never do that. But I want to do something grand. Something that will make a statement. Something with big wings or impressive hair or a complicated outfit, something that makes people think "Wow, that must have been fun to make."
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
It's not terribly exciting, but it was very memorable. Actually, two instances.
Firstly, when I first donned my entire Lady Loki costume and everyone starts admiring my horns. the organizer of the con then opens a bunch of packages of glowstick bracelets and links them together into a garland. Then she and a few others decide my horns need to be decorated. So they decorate my horns, glowstick garland is all over my horns. The organizer looks over at me and says "Looking festive there, reindeer games!" And it just made me smile.
Another memorable moment was from the same night, still dressing as Lady Loki. There were prizes for best dressed, most original, best in-character, etc. I was especially excited to see who would win best costume, I had a few ideas but I wasn't sure. I knew I wouldn't win because I was on the committee who organized the event. But then the organizer says "I think we all know who wins best dressed, our own Sam! I've never seen a better female Loki!" I think I was stunned for a minute. She made the rule that committee members couldn't win prizes, but I still won. Made my entire night.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I do. I'm going to one soon.
What was your best masquerade experience?
I haven't been to one yet, but I will.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yep, won best dressed at a local con for my Lady Loki costume.
Tell us a little about yourself
Took a year of college for Graphic Design. While I was very good at it, it was boring, so I dropped out of that course. I'm currently taking a year off trying to device on a different course of action, I'm thinking about becoming a seamstress though, perhaps professional costumer.
