What got you into cosplay?
I've always enjoyed going to Conventions, whether they be anime specific or just science fiction/fantasy related. For anime cons I do like to at least dress up a little bit to celebrate the convention. However, I've gotten more interested in cosplay through my friends, who are encouraging me to find my costumes and characters from series I like to dress up as.
What was your first costume and why?
I went to AX 2003 in a pretty crappy Witch Hunter Robin inspired get up. My first real costume was Milly from Trigun, which was an outfit technically made by my younger sister and then borrowed by me!
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume is Sheska from FMA. I like the uniform, I can still wear my glasses, and above all, I love being a character who is shy and a bookworm... just like me! However, playing Gracia Hughes is also fun, because my real life fiance does a wonderful Maes Hughes cosplay.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I'm only just starting to attend conventions again, and have only gone to a few gatherings. But I will write about my most recent one, the SoCal Cosplay Picnic, because it was so awesome. I met a ton of new people through their scavenger hunt, and someone came up and told me that I was simply adorable as Gracia Hughes.
Tell us a little about yourself
I grew up going to Science Fiction Cons (I've been attending LosCon since I was 6 months old) and my family usually has our summer vacation at WorldCon. I love to read! I particularly like SF and fantasy. Also mysteries. I am also starting graduate school at UCLA in the fall in modern Japanese literature. Anyway, apart from books, I love school. Crazy, I know, but there are some people out there who just want PhDs and to become your professors! Outside of a future in academia, I am an avid lover of live theater, strange movies, weird bands no one else listens to, and vegetarian food. I really love animals, especially cats. My favorite food is pancakes. I've studied abroad in Japan for 5 months and I plan to go back sometime after HappyHeretic and I get married.
