Just about done with the "feather cage" for my Sakura costume. After popping the balloon I shaped the paperclay around, I sanded the whole thing smooth. Then, bright metallic gold spray paint. The whole thing was weathered using black and gold enamel paint. Just need to clear coat everything and put in the gem and tassle.
