After separating the back into a top and bottom layer I shoved the top half into a ponytail, hacked off half the length and layered it off by using the scissors to make lots of long and short vertical cuts (it helps to do this in sections, using long hairclips to separate the hair into even thinner layers and working from the bottommost layer upwards), then twisted the layered hair up and somehow made spikes by lots of trial and error cutting, grabbing clumps and blasting it upside down with aquanet D:

Also the right part of the bangs kept falling to the front, so I tried to "train" it into place with some hairclips and another blast of hairspray 8D
Luckily that seemed to work, and after a few hours when I took off the clips they were being good puppies and staying in place like they're supposed to. :3
