My newest Count D cosplay. (Yes, I am obsessed with his wardrobe. ^_^;;) This is supposed to be the tailcoat outfit that he wore in the chapter with Ten-Chan in volume 8. I wasn’t planning to make another D until fall but I suddenly got an urge to do this coat a few weeks ago and finished it up for the local cherry blossom festival this past weekend.
I made the coat with some brocade I had left from an evening gown I sewed several years ago. It doesn’t really show in the photo but there’s a leafy pattern to it with metallic gold threads woven into the fabric. It has a soft golden shimmer in person and is one of my favorite fabrics that I ever bought. ^_^ The skirt is a Chinese brocade with a leaf pattern.
The coat is fully lined. The patterning and construction wasn’t too difficult but all the olive trim took a long time since it goes completely around the edges of the tails. (There's about 8 yards of it on the coat!) I think about half the time spent on this costume was just handstitching Chinese braid into place and other bits of handsewing. But I’m pleased with the results. ^_^
