Ashura-ou Progress

Ashura-ou Progress
Bethii-chan
Yay! My Ashura-ou costume is almost done! I have to finish the wig and head pieces, and get a tassel. Now I babble:

The bodice (which you can't really see in this photo) is made from purple taffeta and lined in black cotton twill. I had to make pattern for it has I didn't really have one on hand. The bodice is also fully boned with plastic boning. I trimmed it with red bias tape and painted on gold trim. It also has a side zipper.

The burgundy skirt is made of burgundy casa satin and has a burgundy cotton lining. The flames are made of cotton that is satin-stitched on.

The kimono is made of white casa satin and is fully lined with lavender cotton. The flames are lavender cotton that is satin-stitched on. The skirt (which I think in the ref. is supposed to be the kimono, but for my sanity I made it in two separate pieces) is made from the same materials although the lavender on the skirt is a shade darker than on the kimono. D: The flames are, again, satin-stitched on. It's not lined, but I made french seams so nothing will fray!

The obi is made from black cotton twill, purple taffeta and gold bias trim that I made. The obi has stiff interfacing in it, along with plastic boning. The purple taffeta circle was painted the a holographic paint, and kinda changes color! I also put velcro on the edges for easy in and out! I had to take some liberties with the obi because unlike Ashura, I have hips, so I had to make room for my hips :D!

The necklace (that eats babies) is made from craft foam. I painted it, and then attached strands of shiny glass beads! The large red gems I casted myself from clear resin that I put red dye in! The necklace surprisingly isn't that heavy, but they're so many beads on it and it gets tangled easily! :O!

I'll be wearing this to Otakon and think I'm gonna die of heat!
