Take one of the sealed bundles of braiding hair, pin the middle (where it's sealed with an elastic) to the inside of the hole in the foamcore, and fix it with adhesive caulk or glue (again, no adhesive that will melt polystrene foam!)

It will probably need to be held in place by a sewing pin or the like, which you can remove once the caulk has dried.
