ODANGO Tutorial - Step 5

ODANGO Tutorial - Step 5
Kukkii-san
Once the adhesive has dried and the fiber is anchored securely inside the hole, you can start wrapping the foamcore.

You will not be using adhesive of any kind! All you need now is hairspray and a blow dryer!

Section off a small strand, spread it out, and mist it with hairspray from both (!) sides. Apply hairspray to the foamcore as well, so the fiber will stick to it! Then wrap the strand all the way around the foamcore, so you can tuck the end inside the hole on the other side, opposite from where you started.

Make sure the fiber crosses the 'peak' of the odango and doesn't slip sideways. Always take the longest route and end up on the opposite side of the hole on the bottom.

Apply more hairspray on top of the fiber, then set it with a blow dryer on low heat. Apply heat for a few seconds, wait a few more seconds for the fiber to cool off, and let go - the fiber is set in shape. (If it's not: more haispray and more blow dryer heat. Remember to apply hairspray to the underside of the fiber as well, so it can actually stick to the surface of the foamcore!)

Different brands of extension fiber may react differently to heat and hairspray; some are more malleable than others. So there is no set rule on how much heat and product it takes to set the fiber, you'll figure it out as you go.
