I added the cleft in the front of the hoof by cutting out a triangle and taping in a folded piece of cardboard. I glued black leather directly onto the cardboard and to the bottom of the hoof. The natural striations of the cardboard show through and I think they look pretty cool.

Also glued on some fabric for the fur.
