Carve the desired shape out of a styrofoam block or sandwich multiple layers of rigid insulation foam.

You may want to create a paper pattern first to determine the perfect shape. (Hold it against your stubbed ponytail wig for fitting.) For most anime ponytails, an egg-shaped or pear-shaped foam block works just fine.

Carve a hole into the foamcore that is large enough so that it can be slid over the ponytail stub on the base wig.
