- Dragon Age: Origins - Alistair
Here it is pretty much complete.

I still have some shaping and fitting to do, as well as some adjustments to make on how some of the gear sits on my body, mainly the pauldrons and tassets, since they either keep falling off, or they straighten out when they're supposed to curve, which shows the cardboard behind.

All-in-all, though, it's still a decent first attempt.

I should've made the templar armor instead. Would've been easier.

Thank you much! I'll be happy when this thing is completely finished.

Pictures will of course appear on here when that happens.

Thanks for the comment. :3

Something tells me that wouldn't go over well with my job. XD

I'm glad you like the cosplay, though! :3

I like the shape and riveting style on your plates moreso than mine. It's cool knowing there are others who did this costume as well. I might go for a more rounded plate style next time around, I think it looks nice.

mrbob0822 replied on 09-15-2010 at 12:22 AM:

I'm sure yours were far less time-consuming than mine. Making anything out of cardboard becomes a huge pain in the butt when you have to make it look like something else. Multiply that about a hundred times or so, and...well, I'd rather not think about how much of my life I devoted to painting cardboard and hot glue to look like metal splints. :P

The screen cap on the right became god when I was working on this. I tried to stay as close to it as possible, but wound up having to cut some corners on things like the bracers, since I already owned a pair and ran out of time.

All in all, I think the Templar armor would've been easier. Good luck if you give it a second go. I'd love to see how it turns out, considering how awesome your first shot looks. A shame you live in Alaska. It'd be awesome seeing you at a con down here.

Huzzah! You're adorable, nice work on the Splint mail, looks very awesome. Too bad you're not going to Youmacon Anyways, I'm sure you'll win lots of awards if you ever go into a Masquerade!

I'm really excited that you completed this... you are my hero.

mrbob0822 replied on 09-02-2010 at 04:14 AM:

Nah, no Youmacon. I ran out of cash and a friend of mine is having a big Halloween costume party at his place. I couldn't resist, since it's close and also completely free.

There's still plenty of work to be done on this. I'm actually waiting for glue to dry on the shield while I type this. I still have the elbow and knee protectors to build, the random steel plates Alistair has on his boots and biceps, and I have to figure out how to make the armor more form-fitting too, otherwise it just looks too frumpy.

Thanks for the kind words. Someone needed to give Alistair some cosplay love. I'm glad I could be the first. :3

I didn't like pioneering this thing. I wanted someone to ask how they made the costume so many times during the build. XD

It's getting there though. Just a few more tweaks.

hmwsg x replied on 08-25-2010 at 11:46 PM:

Its looking great, though! I'm slowly convincing/prodding my boyfriend to make an Alistair costume so I'm sure we will be eyeing your costume for ideas =D

mrbob0822 replied on 08-26-2010 at 03:20 AM:

Doooo it. There needs to be more Alistair luff.

If you're planning on making the grey iron splint mail(honestly, I'd suggest the templar armor instead, as it'll probably save you a lot of grief), let me know if you have any questions, and I'd be more than happy to tell you what I did for each part.

At least the costume was relatively cheap, albeit extremely time-consuming.

hmwsg x replied on 08-26-2010 at 01:39 PM:

I think he wants to do the splint mail though D: The templar armor would be so badass, too.
We're trying to find the most convincing material for it...he wants to use aluminum x.x which I reeaally don't think is going to happen lol Its his first costume so I'm trying to find something easy to work with. I'm sure I will PM you in the future if he's totally stuck on what to do xD

mrbob0822 replied on 08-27-2010 at 01:24 PM:

Actually, it's hilarious you should mention aluminum because I was originally planning on using that too.

I changed my mind when I had no money, and cardboard was both familiar and completely free.

mrbob0822 replied on 08-27-2010 at 02:58 PM:

Additionally, make sure you have some decent reference images for him to work with. I used these that I just screen-capped from the game. I'm not sure if you're playing DA:O off of PC or 360, so I figured I'd share 'em:

hmwsg x replied on 08-28-2010 at 01:35 AM:

Yeah, I think he will change his mind once he really knows how much it will cost and the time he has to put into it. Thanks so much for the images! Its so hard to find actual reference images of his splint mail...everything of him online is half naked x.X;;
I'll be using a PC version soon once my computer is finished being built. wooo!

Again, thanks for all the help =D

mrbob0822 replied on 08-29-2010 at 05:59 PM:

Yeah, I certainly noticed that from every time I Googled him. That phrase alone sounds dirty. x_x
