Well, I've had this thing for 10 years, the costume's been retired for almost 9, and I'm never, ever going to remake it so I decided it's definitely time to let it go. Most of the costume got canned, but the sword was still in pretty good shape aside from some minor surface damage. Rather than let it go to waste, I decided to find a new home for it.
I patched and sanded out some gouges and scratches, gave it a completely new repaint, and finished it off with 4 coats of varnish. I'm really pleased with how much better it looks now, especially the gem.
It's interesting to me to look back on this and realize where my skills are now. This sword was the first prop I ever made. I learned a lot from it. My current standards are MUCH higher so I could do a better job if I were to remake it from scratch now. But for what it is, I think it cleaned up quite nicely and it's definitely an improvement from how it looked back then.
Now it's shipped off to cpardo, and hopefully it serves him as well as it served me when I was into Slayers craziness ages ago.

I think it was something like 3 to 3 1/2 feet long. I can't check for sure because I no longer have the sword.
