I decided to be an overachiever last week and finish all my homework for the week on Monday-Tuesday, so I had an entire weekend to work on my cosplay~
I had decided to use a long-sleeved black shirt I found in my closet for the under, but after seriously studying my references, I realized that all I really need is a t-shirt. I dug through my dresser and found an old black tee I got for free more than likely from my old dojo, took it in to be more form-fitting, and wore it inside out and backwards. This IS my first sewing project, so altering a t-shirt was probably one of the scariest parts of this entire project, but it turned out perfectly! /browwipe.
I drew the seam details onto the t-shirt with silver Sharpee. I was basically standing in front of the bathroom mirror with a marker in my hand, running up and down the stairs to look at the reference pic again. After I finally got started, it didn't turn out too bad...I just scribbled out the one mistake with a black Sharpee. Which totally worked. xD I was so pleased.
I made the shoulder pieces and off-hand ammo packs out of craft foam and electrical tape while watching old Batman movies with my sister. Randomly, at one point, she cried out, "Oh! So Bruce Wayne is Batman! Everything makes so much more sense now!!". Just ... Lol. The red details on the packs are cut-up pieces of more Christmas packaging~
The sleeves might have surpassed the t-shirt alteration in the intimidation factor. They are just cylinders, so you just need to fold the fabric, sew the other side together, then turn the whole thing inside out (and, of course, make adjustments for the elbows, etc..but just as a generalization)...but it was still a monster for me to approach. I made the pattern for each arm separately (and out of the fabric I was going to use...lol), but no problems at all. Seriously considering NOT sewing them into the shirt...just because...They don't seem to need to be, though. We'll see.
Then the gloves. Probably going to be _the_ most exciting part of this entire cosplay. Having three fingers is so crazy exciting...Just wondering how I'm going to manage if I get to wear this at some con (or, at very least, Decades Day at school...).
Anyways. So Tali is an engineer/hacking/tech specialist. All the keyboards that I've seen in the Mass Effect universe have been more or less American in style. So...how do Quarians type...or ?
