I made the straps out of some scraps of black fabric that were lying around. Thankfully I had a pair of real Japanese geta to use for reference.
So I cut out 2 long strips, and 2 shorter, narrower strips; sewed them together to make tubes; and then turned them inside out.
With the narrower strips, I strung just a single piece of twine through them; to be used as the toe strap. And with the other pieces, I superglued some twine to a strip of fluff, rolled it up like sushi, glued it again so it would retain its shape, then stuffed it into the tube. I then tied the bottoms together and ta-da!
And I can even walk in them. :D It's very true what everyone has said about these shoes. They're quite easy to walk in...it's standing still that's a problem. XD
And a big shoutout to littlecasaroo http://www.cosplay.com/member/260684/ for all their help in making the wood shoes!!!

You are very brave to walk in these while carrying a extra long spear. O__o

I don't know about brave...insane is more like it, lol. I don't know how I'm going to do it (the thought of carrying the spear and wearing the mask with these shoes on scares me a little), but I am comforted by the fact that I'll have 12 of my friends around me to catch me if I fall. XD

It was nerve racking being in a mascot costume while carrying a scythe was well for me but I had boots on. >__<
