Making the Mask - clay molding
My first attempt at making the mask involved multiple pieces which were heat formed, and then attaching them and applying Bondo, much like the helmet. However, I wasn't happy with the finish I achieved with Bondo, nor did the separate pieces attach well enough to get the look I wanted for the mask. SO, I built my own vaccuform table.
First, I modeled the mask out of clay. I haven't modeled anything with clay before, so I was pretty happy with how this turned out. Instead of building the entire form from clay, I used cardboard to build up the center, and then added clay on top (to save money). I then drilled holes through the cardboard base to allow the suction to pull around the form.
