If you had asked me early last year I never would have thought that for AN 2011 I would Cosplay from Onechanbara. XD I've played the Xbox game a couple of times and it's pretty mindlessly fun, but it's definitely not an amazing game. I made this costume to be part of an Onechanbara group with Ammie as Aya and Jukebox as Annna. Ammie suggested we do the group for AN this year last fall and I really liked Saki's design and the idea of Cosplaying a sister character to the character Ammie was Cosplaying so I happily agreed.
I picked to make Saki's outfit from the Wii game Bikini Zombie Slayers that is a later sequel to the Xbox Bikini Samurai Squad, which is the more commonly known game in North America. I actually didn't realize until after I finished making the costume that I had made a costume from a sequel game and not just a separate release of the Bikini Samurai Squad game. lol XD I picked this version of Saki's outfit over the Xbox game's version because I like the look of her blue shirt and the plaids of her skirt.
This costume was a lot of fun and kind of challenging to make. The skirt pattern was actually really tricky to master, but working on the shirt was pretty much a breeze. It's a really comfy costume so it's a lot of fun to wear. The wig is the only really annoying part of the costume. It has a rather big wig cap and the pigtails make it super heavy so it was a real pain to get it to sit properly on my head. I shoved so many pins into the wig to get it to not slip that it was kind of painful. XD
I have to thank my friend Bonnie for lending me the great sword and sheath props that I used for this costume. I didn't really feel like making my own sword given how obscure the character is and I was working on this costume not at the best time of year to buy toy props. Bonnie really helped me out of a pickle by lending me the sword that she had for an old costume. I can't thank her enough!
Due to other costume commitments and the weather, Ammie and Jukebox were unable to wear their costumes at AN which was too bad. I'm going to be re-wearing my Saki costume to the Toronto Cosplay Picnic in a couple of weeks as Ammie and Jukebox plan to bring their costumes to debut there. Hopefully we'll have some nice weather and we can get some great group shots! I just hope my wig cooperates and won't fall back off of my forehead.
Thanks to Rock nam Lee for providing this great shot of my costume from Friday of AN.
