Now that everyone and their grandmother wants Rapunzel wigs, I've been itching to make one too! This one is modeled after the actual wigs worn by Disney Park actresses, and it's meant to be worn with the braid resting on the shoulder (so the tip doesn't drag on the floor); hence the curved braid.
The braid is made of three foamcore 'noodles' wrapped with extension fiber. The foamcore pieces were sewn into the base wig, blended in with the wig fiber, and braided.
The finished wig weighs about 1.4kg, which isn't too bad for a wig this size... the foamcore helps reduce the weight while adding lots of volume. Still, there's a lot of fiber in this wig and I would've added more if I hadn't run out of extensions in the end!
long-length (80cm) wig (24 - medium blonde), extensions x7 (24 - medium blonde, and 613 - light blonde); foamcore (rubber foam), plastic flowers

I find it hysterical that you used foam pipe insulation since I'm doing the eact same thing. I've been meaning to make a Rapunzel costume since the movie came out, I've finally gotten around to it, but I bought the foam well over a year ago for it. You did a beautiful job!

The wonders of foamcore ^.^ The "foam noodles" will maintain the shape when you braid them.

How did you get the braid to curve? This is the first Rapunzel wig I've seen that does that.

Holy wow. Would you be commissioning these perhaps? If so, could I get a quote please?
