This was my most challenging costume. We decided I should do Jenova, because there hasn’t been that many Jenova cosplayers. It was a good counterpart to boyfriend being Sephiroth. Everyone would do a double-take when they saw me because no one was expecting it!
I started with the leotard. I just draped it on a dress form and pinned it to where I wanted it to go and sewed it. I followed no pattern and have never even made one before. So when it came out perfect, I was astonished! Then I dyed it and used hot glue to make the veins sort of “pop out.”
I cut up some upholstery foam for the “wings.” Painted it with a heavy gel so that it looks goopy and gory, rather than just flat red. They got glued to a thin sheet of aluminum which tied in the front. It was difficult to breathe sometimes!
The front intestine-like thing, is a hose I found online. I stuffed it with fake blood and stockings. The whole thing gets screwed into a panel in the front.
The headpiece was made out of wonderflex, then coated in bondo and painted with model paint. The headpiece is my favorite aspect of this whole costume because of how well it came out.
The body paint that I used is actually an adhesive. The brand is “pros-aide” and all you do is mix with acrylic. It didn’t flake off (unless I peeled it or held something heavy) and was very comfortable. I would wear it again, as long as I have more time to paint myself. It took me three hours!
The costume is completed with a wig from Arda Wigs, clear stilettos, and one pink and one black contact. I hope to wear this costume again soon!
Sephiroth write up is coming!
