Rough draft of bustle flowers...and a little bit of wig!
..or as I call them. "buttflowers" XD
The original plan was to try to buy flowers, but I could not find vaguely realistic white roses that were of the extra large size required for the flower bustle, so I had to go the route of making them. One would THINK there would be ample tutorials on the matter, but I actually had difficultly finding something (and the one that looked promising was from a milliner for 20 dollars. EEP!)...until I stumbled on a bridal blog that referenced a tutorial for crepe flowers by...Martha Stewart.
Yes, Martha Stewart saved my butt....flowers.
This flower is not made of crepe. It is made of a synthetic crushed silkish material that has been treated with Stiffen Stuff, a liquid fabric stiffener, which makes the fabric..well, very much like paper! The petals are then cut out, heated carefully with a very small iron to get the petaly edges (melt, don't scorch!), and assembled.
I think I am going to have to do about 5-7 or so when all is said and done.
You can also see the wig here: it's an Arda Ferrari in Dark Lavender, which has been straightened to the correct style. I do need to add in a few wefts up front to touch it up, but I haven't had time.
