First chore on my list: Organizing and storing costumes~
I have a lot of props & costumes laying all over the house, so it was due time I found a good home to store them in (and keep the spider webs at bay). Everything's in my "treasure chest", except the oversized items like Valefor, and Link's Sword & Shield. Some things got tossed out, like my Legend of Dragoon armour, parts of Ja-Kal's armour, and Eliwood's sword. Random fabric based items were re-used, so I'll also have to remake those in the future too.
The one thing that was very interesting, was the progression and quality of my prop over time. I've been cosplaying for 5 years now, and still learning new techniques every costume I make. I'm very much a amateur in several departments, but that's the great thing about this hobby, always room to grow. I picked out a few props oldest to newest to show~
Left to right: Eliwood's Rapier, first sword I ever made, including scabbard. Made out of cardboard, tape and craft foam covering the handle & sheath. Zero's Helmet, first helmet I ever made, made out of cereal boxes & a toy's packaging. Samus' Helmet & Blaster, cereal box frames, covered in yoga mat foam entirely. Zidane's Pouch, cardboard base, covered with craft foam, including details. Last is Skyward Link's Master Sword, completely made from cereal boxes & corrugated cardboard (inverted technique: foam core to protect sword, cardboard outer shell).
Using paper mache for Valefor's Mask, and starting wooden props this coming year, I'm hoping I can get better. Always feel free to show your props too, I love seeing people's hard work, and sharing stories! :D
