I've wanted to try Chara Star's for a while (morbid curiosity) and an upcoming Ciel cosplay seemed a safe enough shot ~ it's a shorter wig and has a bit more length than it needs to have when finished, so I have room to play. That said ~ I soon ran across an even nicer Ciel wig through JAIL which was on sale for half off and ended up coming home with me, too. I don't know yet which will be my final Ciel. Yes, I have a wig problem.
The wig is a custom blend for Ciel. There are two different shades of grey fibres and a few very dark blue fibres interspersed. The final look in indoor light is actually less nuanced than it would seem - it looks like light black or dark grey. In very bright light, natural light or flash ~ the wig is actually a pretty awesome match for Ciel. It's too bad most Kuroshitsuji shoots are at dimly lit locations.
The wig came oddly frizzed up on the surface, seemingly to hold the semblance of a suggested character style and with some blocked off bangs I did not agree with. A quick comb through corrected the issue in minutes and the wig isn't damaged in the least for it's odd pre-styling adventure.
It was 4,200 yen and came packed in a wig net, plastic bag and Chara Star's box. The wig is protected by two pieces of inner fill (tissue paper) and a cardboard insert to keep it from being crushed. It also came with a new, black wig cap.
The bangs need to be cut and the style doesn't scream Ciel ... or anything I couldn't have done myself in 5 minutes to a standard short wig. The color is really the only custom work here.
The color is a custom and is lovely in bright or natural light.
If I have any complaints other than the boring indoor color it's an issue of volume. The wig isn't THIN per se... but it isn't really thick either. I would have liked something a little thicker on the sides to give my opressively oval face a rounder look.
I'm not nearly as impressed by this wig as I was with my two Character wigs from Classe. I think I'll be sticking with Classe in the future. For the same exact price, they seem to have a bit more attention to detail in their initial cuts and come in cooler packaging.
