That depends...what is your budget? I got a Nirvana wig for my James because I had a hard time finding ones with the fibers oriented in the right direction for his hair. That one set my friend back 40 I think (with shipping) and the fibers were pretty bad quality for the price :P It took to sharpie dye well (perhaps a bit too well in fact).
@Thadine: this might be an awful idea, but maybe you could build it over pantyhose, and then apply theatrical makeup over it to cover it up?
